What Kata Beach is actually like

Kata packs more life per metre than any beach south of Patong, at family scale rather than party scale: 1.5 km of white sand with a palm fringe, restaurants at walking distance, and the small river mouth at the north end. From November to April the bay is clear and swimmable end to end; from May to October Kata becomes Phuket's surf classroom — consistent, forgiving waves and board rentals on the sand. Quieter Kata Noi hides one headland south.

The hills wrapping the bay hold sea-view condos and villas at prices that undercut the north-west coast, and holiday-rental demand is reliable in both seasons thanks to the surf trade. Kata suits buyers who want a walkable beach town that doesn't go to sleep in the green season — with Karon and the viewpoint road on the doorstep.
