Karon is Phuket's third-longest beach — 3.3 km of pale, squeaky "singing" sand so wide that even February crowds spread out to nothing. Unusually for the west coast, the road and hotels sit behind a low dune ridge rather than on the sand, so the beach itself feels open and undeveloped. Swimming is excellent from November to April, with a long shallow entry; in the May–October monsoon Karon develops some of the strongest rip currents on the island — the red flags are not decorative, and lifeguards mean it when they close sections.
The town behind is a mid-tempo resort strip — dive schools, long-running restaurants, a night market — livelier than Surin, far calmer than Patong, with Kata's cafés one headland south. For buyers, the hillsides between Karon and Kata hold sea-view condos at prices well below the Bang Tao–Surin corridor, and the holiday-rental logic is straightforward: this is one of the most-searched beaches in Thailand.
